Piet Warffemius' work is strongly influenced by the many travels he has made since the 1980s. During his wanderings he encountered art from around the world, which he began to collect and eventually found its way into his own visual language. What might have inspired Warffemius in this artwork?

Piet Warffemius graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 1979 specialising in mural paintings. At the time, this discipline was relatively unpopular, as conceptual art dominated the art world. After the conceptual movement became less important and expressionist painting reappeared, Warffemius started to be influenced by the trips he made throughout Africa, Buddhist Asia and the Himalayas
