During the 1950s, the Cobra movement dominated the Northern European avant-garde. Whilst living in Paris, Bram Bogart spent time with many of its most famous artists but was unimpressed by the coincidence which led their art. Bogart seemed more inspired by the American movement of Abstract Expressionism of which this painting is a good example. What characterises this movement?
